A few questions about growing tomatoes upside down.

Reader Question:

I am interested in growing tomatoes upside down.  I thought about buying the product on the TV ad but am a little nervous.  I then talked to a friend who has heard you can make your own.  What your experience?    Should I make my own or buy them?  Any other tips?

Hi Ron,

First here are a few tips that may help.  These are heavy so you will need a sturdy place for them with a good eye hook.  You will probably need some help getting them setup.  After that it’s just normal maintenance just like growing in the garden.  (Without the groundhogs and back breaking weeding!)

I have tried making them out of a 5 gallon pail.  They were way too heavy and moisture control was tough.  They molded.  I would stick to the TV brand and save my time and money on having to buy/plant new plants!

I purchased the ones on TV.  I have 5 of these this year (I did 2 last) and are growing peppers in one.  Last year the amount they produced was more than previous years in the ground.  Plus it’s a space saver for me.  Next year I will go for even more.
